GKC completing MRV installations
Following the start of the application of the MRV regulation, GKC Repairs & Maintenance Ltd has handled over 25 projects so as the subjected vessels to comply with the new requirements.
The MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) requires ship owners and operators to annually monitor, report and verify CO2 emissions for vessels larger than 5,000 gross tonnage (GT) calling at any EU and EFTA (Norway and Iceland) port. Data collection takes place on a per voyage basis and starts 1 January 2018, which calls for immediate action by the ship owners. (source: DNVGL.com)
More specifically, in a timeline of 17 months, GKC has been on board 28 vessels, including cargo vessels, container vessels and multipurpose vessels, with two electronic engineers and two certified welders for each ship, and has completed the installation of MRV projects, including the setting and commissioning of the systems.
Currently, the key dates for the MRV are:
· 31 August 2017 – Companies to submit monitoring plans to verifiers for approval
· 1 January 2018 – Vessels to start Per-voyage monitoring and reporting
· 30 April 2019 – Verified annual emission reports submitted to the EC
· 30 June 2019 – Emission data made publicly available by the EC
This cycle will then repeat for subsequent years.
GKC Repairs & Maintenance Ltd, understanding the urgency of the regulatory compliance, stays vigilant for client requests.
